ABT Summer Accident

This accident occurred on May 28, 1991 when an oil tanker named ABT Summer experienced an explosion and fire approximately 900 miles off the coast of Angola. The vessel was carrying a cargo of 260,000 tons of Iranian heavy crude oil. Five of the 32 crew members onboard were killed as a result of the accident [3,9]. [Pg.94]

A slick covering an area of about 80 square miles spread around the oil tanker and burnt quite fiercely. The vessel burnt continuously for three days and sank on June 1,1991. The subsequent efforts for locating the ship wreckage were unsuccessful. [Pg.95]
