A Discovery in the Museum

Charles Hatchett (1765-1847) grew up in an affluent family in London. His father was a famous manufacturer of state coaches. When he was six, Charles and his family moved into a new home, the beautiful Bell Ville House. During his adolescence [Pg.553]

He then concluded that he had discovered a new element. In consultation with distinguished chemists in England he gave the new element the name columbium, with reference to its American origin. As a consequence the mineral was given the name columbite. [Pg.554]
