A Client with Chronic Pain

The client diagnosed with terminal cancer is experiencing significant pain. Which information is most important for the hospice nurse to teach the client and significant other  

If the pain medications are not working, try to divert the client s attention. 

Take the pain medications at the onset of pain before it becomes severe. 

Do not allow family or friends to visit when the client is in pain. 

Too much narcotic pain medication will cause the client to be addicted.
